A homeowner on Second Street in Baywood-Los Osos contacted MAG Electric wanting to prepare their home for a solar installation they planned to complete the following year. The existing 100-amp panel was clearly insufficient for the solar inverter addition, and the homeowner also wanted an EV charger for a recently leased Chevy Bolt.
We assessed the property and provided a combined quote for a 200-amp panel upgrade with solar-ready interconnection provisions and a 50-amp EV charger circuit. The work required an SLO County Building and Safety permit, which we filed and managed. We also coordinated the PG&E service upgrade portion of the work, which required a utility work order and scheduling that added approximately two weeks to the timeline.
The panel upgrade and EV charger were completed once PG&E confirmed the utility upgrade. Total timeline from first call to final inspection was 24 days, largely driven by PG&E scheduling. Total project investment was approximately $5,800. The homeowner's solar contractor was able to interconnect directly to the new panel six months later without any additional electrical work required.
